Oolong Tea

Oolong tea, also known as brown tea, is known as a weight loss tea, while simultaneously improving the immune system.

Weight Loss Tea Use

The antioxidants in oolong tea increase metabolism rates for two hours.  These antioxidants also help fat to burn, hence improving weight loss ability.  Polyphenols in oolong tea are somewhat responsible for a portion of weight loss.  These polyphenols keep the metabolism from slowing when weight is lost, also helping the weight loss process continue.

Oolong tea is very similar to green tea, as it comes from the same plant – Camellia Sinensis.  While green tea is known to help weight loss as well, oolong has a more proven history.  The difference between green tea and oolong tea rests in the way it is prepared.  Oolong the weight loss tea is prepared through carefully controlled conditions, allowing oxidation of the leaves.  Most cells in this process remain intact.  These preparation differences are the reason for varied health benefits.

Oolong tea halts the absorption of fat and carbs.  While doing this, it also helps increase the amount of energy used.  The caffeine spikes metabolism, causing the increased use of energy – for as long as two hours.  Oolong tea activates enzymes that trigger the destruction of fat cells as well and therefore also known as slimming tea.

Drinking oolong tea informs the body to burn fat in order to utilize it for an energy source.  Between the caffeine and active ingredient, fat oxidation increases.

Oolong tea is known as particularly effective for reducing abdominal fat and upper arms.  The weight loss tea targets fat and the antioxidants work their magic.

One of the lesser-known facts about oolong tea is its ability to stabilize blood sugar.  Those cravings for candy and sweets?  Consider them gone!  Oolong tea helps stop cravings for unhealthy snacks and desserts, as it stabilizes the blood sugar and leaves you less desirous of the bad!

Best preparation?  One teaspoon of oolong tea powder and one cup of hot water.  Let the tea steep for a good fifteen minutes or so.  Once the tea is strained and cooled, it’s ready to drink! It is also a great Green tea (alternate)

Health Benefits

As if not good enough as a weight loss tea, oolong tea has an array of health benefits.  One of its most prominent benefits is its ability to strength the immune system.  Less chance of illness is always good!

Oolong tea’s ability to stabilize blood sugar makes it beneficial for diabetes management.  Lower risk of blood sugar drops or spikes helps lessen diabetic concerns and fears.

As with green tea, oolong tea helps the heart.  Cholesterol is lowered from oolong tea, and the tea also helps with plasma levels.

Oolong tea naturally de-stresses.  One of the best ways to relax is to sit back with a cup of oolong tea.

Want glowing skin?  Oolong helps clear skin.  From skin diseases to acne, oolong helps it all!

Needless to say, oolong tea has many benefits that suit everyone’s needs, but most importantly, works incredibly well as a weight loss tea!

What is Stevia

What is Stevia

Stevia with Oolong Tea

Stevia: The Natural Substitute for Sugar

Stevia is a unique sweetener or substitute for sugar, that is extracted from leaves of a I plant known as stevia rebaudiana. Steivol glycosides, which are the basic active compounds found in stevia, have very insignificant effect on our blood glucose and thus hugely popular among people on health diets. They invariably use stevia as the ingredient in place of sugar to make weight loss tea.

Though stevia has been used as a sweetener for many decades in Japan, it was banned in the US in the early nineties. However, after more detailed investigations it was proved to be carcinogenic free and it was approved for use as an additive in 2008. Since 2011, it is widely used in the European Union as well

Origin

The plant stevia rebuadiana is widely found in Brazil and Paraguay. Here, the natives have been using it leaves as food sweeteners for over a hundred years. The substance is so popular for its properties that it is also used in treatment of burns, stomach ailments and at times even in contraception! The plant derives its name from the famous Spanish botanist, Pedro Jaime Esteve who lived in the sixteenth century.

Does stevia really work?

Stevia is said to be sweeter than normal sugar by over 200 times. Researchers have said that this sweetener does not carry calories and has no side effects. In fact, studies suggest that stevia may actually have additional health benefits than known. Catherine Ulbricht, a senior pharmacist in Boston has gone on record as saying that stevia may be used in treating hypertension. Studies also suggest that it could be used to treat patients suffering from diabetes. Further research is in progress.

Studies have also shown that usage of artificial and low calorie sugar replacements may not actually result in weight loss. A study conducted on rats in 2004 showed that they actually overate probably due to a disparity amongst the apparent sweetness and likely calories from sugar.

However, there has been no conclusive sign that stevia affects change in one’s eating habits. A later study has shown that people did not consume more food, when made with stevia in place of sugar and in fact their blood sugar levels were lower.

The Safety Factor

There have been some health worries around the stevia plant. It might lead to lower blood pressure and this may be a cause for worry to those consuming medication for blood pressure.

Catherine Ulbricht, the pharmacist, has advised caution while using medicines that could lower blood sugar. She further said that people using oral drugs for diabetes need to be closely monitored by healthcare professionals.

The US FDA has permitted the use of an isolated biochemical from the plant as a food additive and not leaves or other crude extracts from the plant.

The use of stevia has thus gained in popularity and continues in the preparation of weight loss tea and oolong tea. Consumers of these teas have not shown any negative signs even after using these for decades now.

Pu-erh Weight Loss Tea

Pu-erh Weight Loss Tea

Oolong weight loss tea
Tea is one nutritional beverage that contains virtually no calories unless sugar and/or milk are added. It is also the most consumed beverage on a par with water and can therefore easily be used as a substitute to other more fattening drinks.

Although originating from China, the plant from which most Chinese teas are made from is now being cultivated in over 30 countries with the major producers being Japan, Taiwan, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Indonesia, and India.

While there are four major types of teas namely the white, green, Oolong, and black tea, they are all however derived from the same Camellia sinensis plant

However, the term “green tea” has been used to synonymously refer to virtually all Chinese teas despite their varied classification notwithstanding that they originate from the same plant source. So why it is common for most people to refer to most weight loss tea as simply being green tea, it is however important to understand that their different classifications have a lot to say about the actual nature and properties of each of these teas.

The differences between these four tea types can be said to be a function of their different processing procedures which mostly has to do with the length of time the tea leaves are allowed to “ferment” or “oxidize”. This is so because despite the fact that the basic processing concepts remain the same globally, the way of handling and processing the buds and leaves of the plant after harvesting varies from country to country.

White

This can be said to be most delicately and least processed tea in the world. It is made from leaves that are picked before they are fully open, when the buds are still covered with fine, white hairs which give it the white look.

It is essentially made from young leaves that are not fermented at all as they are simply harvested, cleaned, dried and packaged. It does not have the grassy taste of green tea but has a rather mild flavor and natural sweetness.

Ginger Tea – A Perfect Solution To Weight Loss

An old Indian proverb says “Everything good is found in ginger”. Ginger is referred to as a universal medicine in Ayurveda while Chinese traditional medical practices turn to ginger as it restores Yang, or simply put, hot energy. Though ginger is not a very commonly used ingredient in Western kitchens, despite it being widely used in other countries across the globe, however, this spicy, aromatic root has long been used in Western healings systems as well, especially in the form of ginger tea.

A recent study by the University of Maryland Medical Centre has revealed that the pungent phenol compounds and active volatile oils like shoaols and gingerols, are what lend ginger its magical healing powers.  Studies conducted on animals have indicated that ginger, when coupled with other therapies, can treat obesity.

A research report published in the Journal of the Science and Food of Agriculture in 2014, experimented on the effects of gingerol – the main content in ginger – on the body weight of obese rats. After a trail period of one month, researchers saw a significant reduction in body weight of fats as well as improved levels of leptin in them – a hormone that signals insulin and satiety.

A similar study published in the European Review for Medical and Pharmacological Sciences in its 2013 issue compared the effects of Orlistat (a weight loss medicine) and ginger. After 30 days, Orlistat and ginger had similar body weight reduction effects while ginger also improved levels of good cholesterol in blood streams of rats.

With such a wide range of health benefits, it makes sense to start adding this to more of your dishes. The best way to add ginger to your menu is to start brewing a daily cup of ginger tea also famous as weight loss tea. Ginger tea is proved to have high levels of amino acids, Vitamin C as well as numerous trace elements like Sodium, Calcium, Phosphorus, Zinc and many others.

For optimal benefits, brew your own cup of this effective weight loss tea by simmering a fresh 2-inch piece of whole unpeeled ginger in one quart of water. Bring the water to a boil and then let it simmer on very low heat for around 15 minutes. Strain your freshly brewed weight loss tea and store it in a thermos bottle or any glass jar. An easier alternative is to hunt for packaged ginger teas that have ginger as their main ingredient instead of just the ginger flavored teas.

Not only ginger tea is used as a weight loss tea for general weight reduction, it also helps keep the pesky belly fat away. This is because ginger targets the main reasons that cause fat to accumulate at belly, like hormonal changes, overeating and low energy levels that lead to lack of physical activities.

Chronic stress and hormonal changes can increase blood cortisol levels that throw the metabolism and immune system out of balance.  A cup of ginger tea makes one feel full, which curbs the urge of overeat and fixes hormonal imbalances.

OOLONG TEA AND WEIGHT LOSS

Oolong tea like every other tea comes from the plant, carmellia sinensis. However when it comes to the effectiveness of tea when taken primarily for the purpose of weight loss, oolong tea is premium. In fact, oolong tea has become very popular over the years, earning the endorsement of celebrities like Dr Oz and Oprah Winfrey. In countries like Korea, Japan and China, oolong tea already has a huge reputation for helping people lose fat and weight.

HOW IS OOLONG TEA DIFFERENT FROM THE OTHER TYPES OF TEA

Even though all types of tea come from the same plant, it is the processing that sets them apart. Green tea is unfermented, black tea is fermented and oolong is semi-fermented. This difference in processing influences their composition and their effectiveness of their uses. Oolong tea is actually a great replacement for coffee. It is delicious, aromatic and calorie free – unlike coffee.

Oolong also contains a good quantity of polyphenol. Polyphenol is found in different types of vegetables and fruits like cherries, grapes, cabbage, broccoli and blackberries. It helps your skin get a radiant glow, prevent allergies, improve cognitive functioning, promote strong teeth and overall helps to strengthen your immune system.

HOW DOES IT WORK

Oolong tea contains anti-oxidant that will increase your metabolism by up to 10% or even more, for as long as 2 hours after drinking it. Just like the green tea and the black tea, oolong tea contains caffeine. The caffeine content coupled with the antioxidants present help to substantially boost your metabolism, potentially helping you to attain your weight-loss goals if taken consistently.

It has been scientifically proven that taking oolong tea over long period of time have the following effects:

  • Increases metabolism.
  • Blocks dietary fat absorption.
  • Burns fat through a process called lipolysis.

The combination of these three effects of drinking oolong tea is actually what makes oolong tea so effective for weight loss.
Dr. Lauren Budd and her colleagues in University of California performed and experiment on rats using oolong tea and discovered that consuming oolong tea can cut weight gain by up to 66%.

A Japanese study conducted in 2001 by Masotoshi Nakano, drinking oolong tea regularly will take 2 years off the age of your internal organs. Participants were made to drink at least one litre of oolong tea a day and after a month, regular blood samples of the participants were collected for testing.

The researchers proceeded to calculate the age of participants’ internal organs using various indicators like cholesterol level, liver activity and blood sugar level. They discovered that the participants’ internal organs were rejuvenated by an average of 2 years and a maximum of a whooping 9 years.

The best result was obtained by a woman aged 29 years. Here cholesterol level fell significantly from 206 to 157, and her LDL (bad cholesterol) slumped from 137 to 98 and lastly, her “internal organ age” dropped from 38 to her real age of 29. Overall, out of all of the participants (eleven), 8 of them recorded 2 centimeters reduction in their upper arms while 9 of the participants also recorded 2 cm reduction in their waist. This eye opening study was a joint endeavor by Nagoya City University and Aichi Medical University institute.
